In today’s post, we will look at one of our tested athletes and explain his aeroTEST results to you. It will show you how easily time savings are gained. The test was done on a TT bike in Denmark with semi deep aero wheels.

This is a picture of the first page of the evaluation of his test.

aeroTEST

In the first part under “Allgemeines” you can see the location, powermeterdata, GPS sensor, speed sensor and weather data and in “Standard Equipment” his hardware; “Rahmen” and “Laufrad” are his bike frame and wheels. He wore a standard road bike helmet for his first setup and a long sleeved bike jacket. Under “Ergebnisse” you can see the results of the changes we did with him.

Setup 1: as described above
Setup 2: We switched the standard road helmet to a POC Cerebel aerohelmet which already improved his wind resistance by 1 aeroPOINT.
Setup 3: We advised him to put his head lower which improved the wind resistance by another aeroPOINT.
Setup 4: We exchanged the long sleeved jacket with a Sailfish trisuit subtracting another aeroPOINT.

Here you can see the wind resistance improvement in a separate graph.

cda diagram

This graph does not show the first setup, since this was used as the windfit. We want to put some emphasis on the long sleeved jacket. Of course, this is an option if you are racing under cold conditions, but as you can see here this wi1ll cost you 1 aeroPOINT or roughly 4 minutes over 180 km. In our next big blog series we will also have on test showing alternatives to this option for racing under cold climate conditions.

In the next picture you can see the second page of the aeroTEST evaluation.

aeroCAST

In the upper graph you can see the relative time savings he achieved calculated for Challenge Roth with 240 watts. Compared to the first setup by doing small changes our athlete saved 10 minutes.

The second diagram shows the power needed to cycle at 35, 40 and 45 km/h.

We hope, you could gain an insight into our tools aeroCAST and aeroTEST through our blog series. Next week, we will start with our new series.
